Landing That Perfect Job

By Adena Garcia

So you've finally landing that job interview. You cannot believe that somehow you're resume has been selected from amongst the hoard of applicants for this position. As you knotted your older brother's Dolce & Gabbana necktie this morning, you even allowed yourself to fantasize about affording to drive a fully-loaded Mercedes C Series by year's end.

All fantasies aside, here you sit with sweaty palms and the aching urge to relieve yourself. As you wait for the receptionist to bring you a bottle of water, you glance around uncertain which of the two doors would benefit you most: the restroom or the exit door.

The truth of the matter is you lied; your resume states you have a degree in nursing. You feel as though you've earned your right to be called a Registered Nurse, but formally you only hold a diploma - and a fake degree. You've spent the last 10 years fulfilling virtually every duty required by a registered nurse. In fact, you've been told by many of your peers you are more accomplished than most registered nurses, you merely lack possession of the formal document. To rectify this matter, and qualify yourself for the requirements of the vacant posting, you simply went online and purchased a fake degree for approximately $500. Yes, that's right! You bought a counterfeit and it looks amazing!

The parchment states to your prospective employer you have spent years and years in a classroom, months and months doing practicums and walked the ceremonial stage with a beaming smile to finally grasp in hand that fake diploma. This stylish fake degree cost you much less than the price of a real degree and much less time to order it. Browsing the internet looking for the company that offers the cheapest fake degree and uses the finest paper was a real breeze.

As you resume your seat in Reception sipping nervously on your bottled water, a matronly woman, who reminds you a lot of the head nurse on night shift ambles towards you blocking your clear view of the exit door. An hour later she has assured you she only has a few more questions for you and promises if you meet her approval, you will qualify for the next round of interviews. The next round of interviews will include an entire panel of doctors, technicians and specialists who currently work for the medical center which hosts the vacant position. The thought of being grilled and drilled by an onslaught of experts has caused your hands to start sweating again. You begin to wonder how far you can take this act.
