I personally believe that this small piece of clay, called a
bulla, is one of the most remarkable Biblical relics ever discovered.
Clay bullae, such as this one, are made by placing a lump of
wet clay on a document then using a signet ring to impress the seal of the
owner on the clay.
The inscription reads;
לברכיהו בן נריהו הספר l'berekhyahu ben Neriyahu hasopher
Which translates as;
Belonging to Berekhyahu (Baruch) the son of Neriyahu (Neriah) the scribe
So, what is so significant about this little lump of clay?
The scribe, Baruch the son of Neriah, is Jeremiah the prophet’s scribe!
Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah: and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book. (KJV, Jeremiah 36:4)
