Is the Big Bang mentioned in Quran?

The only way you can get the “Big Bang” out of the Quran is to engage in olympic style exegetical gymnastics!

The verse quoted to support this spurious claim is:-

Tafsīr al-Jalālayn is a classical Sunni interpretation of the Quran, composed by Jalal ad-Din al-Maḥalli in 1459 he explains the verse:-

Have they not ([one may] read a-wa-lam or a-lam) realised, [have they not] come to know, those who disbelieve, that the heavens and the earth were closed together and then We parted them, We made seven heavens and seven earths -- or [it is meant] that the heaven was parted and began to rain, when it did not use to do so, and that the earth was parted and began to produce plants, when it did not use to do so; and We made, of water, [the water] that falls from the heaven and that springs from the earth, every living thing?, in the way of plants and otherwise; in other words, water is the cause of such [things] having life. Will they not then believe?, by affirming My Oneness?

Ibn Kathir the other great commentator (c 1360) explains the same thing:-

Do they not see that the heavens and the earth were joined together, i.e. in the beginning they were all one piece, attached to one another and piled up on top of one another, then He separated them from one another, and made the heavens seven and the earth seven, placing the air between the earth and the lowest heaven. Then He caused rain to fall from the sky and vegetation to grow from the earth.

All the ancient peoples believed that the sky (firmament) is a canopy that was separated from the flat earth. So Mohammed was just reiterating what the ancient Egyptians and Arabs already believed.

Geb (Earth) and Nut (Sky) were once joined and separated by SHU (Air/Space).

On the other side the world in New Zealand, the Maori have the same myth of PAPA and RANGI - they don’t claim it is the Big Bang!!

Both the Bible and the Quran have a geocentric perception of the Universe.

Here is a chart showing the various stages in the creation of the GEO-CENTRIC Universe - there are three versions in the Quran.

This is what our position in the Galaxy really looks like, and there are 2 trillion Galaxies.

The big bang is thought to have happened 13.7 billion years ago. Around 9 billion years after Big Bang, our Sun formed from a huge cloud of gas and dust. It is mainly composed of hydrogen and helium, and the Earth is 4.6 billion years old and formed 9.1 billion years after the birth of the universe.

The “sky” that Allah allegedly separated from the earth is inconceivable vast space. A globe in space cannot be “separated” from it – so super-imposing the Big Bang onto this Middle Eastern creation myth is an exercise if absurdity.
