This is a female head from the 1st century BC, found in Area I of Vulci.

It is currently housed in the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia.

The Etruscans were an ancient civilization located in what is now modern-day Italy.

They flourished from the 8th to the 3rd century BC and were known for their rich culture and influence on Roman civilization. They were skilled metal workers and artists, as is demonstrated by this intricately crafted artefact. Their society was complex and included a system of writing, which remains partially undeciphered. Etruscan women, in particular, enjoyed a relatively high status within society, often depicted in art and mentioned in inscriptions.

This artefact is one of the many evidence they left us of their sophisticated artistry.
