An Illuminated Safety Vest - A Need For Everybody

By Seamus Black

All the members of our family are athletic. We either go biking, jogging, hiking, swimming or playing tennis. We love having an active lifestyle and be physically fit. Since we want to stay that way, these activities are made as safe as possible, especially when biking or jogging on the road. We ride our bikes around the neighborhood even until the sun has set. This hobby has been our family's favorite since my son was still young. Though this wasn't so far from the present time, we did not wear anything to keep us safe. We merely sat on our bikes and rode off! However, things nowadays are different.

I hate to admit it, but it's a perilous world out there - whizzing cars at ultra speed and carelessness. Be defensive when driving your car, the same can be applied for biking and jogging. I prefer doing these activities on the back streets and hills, yet it's still risky. Hence to reduce the risk of injuries, I asserted that all members of the family must wear a helmet, and a vest with reflector, particularly when the activity is at sunrise, sunset or sundown. For the most part, we are not on the roads at nights.

There are additional ways you can be safe on the road. Apparently the purpose is to prevent getting bumped and sideswiped on the road. A headlight on your bike can help you stay visible on the road. There are also helmet lights that aid you on your level of vision so you can be aware that the driver of the approaching car sees you. There are a lot of countries that require bikes to install bells, so putting a horn is a nice plan. If a car is approaching, reduce speed lest you want to hit the road to prevent getting hit. Be cautious of motorists leaving the parking lots, drive on your lane, don't drive against traffic, stay beside the car when the red light is on rather than behind it so that the other driver will know of your presence, look at your side mirror before turning and always use signals, always look behind you first before you move, and do not interweave in traffic. Definitely never ride at night without a headlight and a blinking taillight. Use a vest that reflects lights. Choose streets that are spacious, streets with slow traffic and side streets on weekends. The best way of lessening the risks of accidents from happening when riding is obey traffic laws and always put on your safety gear and proper equipment.

A lot of the safety instructions for biking are the same for jogging A suit with reflectors is what you should wear, do not use your earphones (valid for biking also), and be vigilant of the atmosphere around you. The smoke from the car's exhaust poses a threat to your respiratory system when you bike or jog on the road along with the traffic. A lot of carbon monoxide can get into your lungs quickly including dirt and debris. However, it is rarely the only choice people have.

Hence the best safety option is be on the defensive side always. The best way to keep yourself visible from other motorists is to wear an orange or yellow reflective suit that can provide safe visibility.
