Need Quick And Easy Christmas Craft Ideas For Kids?

By Nicole Dean

Christmas crafts don't have to be complicated or expensive. Nothing is more fun for kids than spending time together with you creating simple fun Christmas ornaments out of a pile of silly things. Take some time this holiday season to create delightful little ornaments with fun Christmas crafts that you and your kids will both love! Let's see what we can make!

Candy Cane Reindeer: Get ready to make a whole bunch of these. Once you start you won't want to stop. You'll need some candy canes, of course, and some small googly eyes and red pompoms. You'll also need some brown pipe cleaners, pretty gift ribbon, and a tiny bell.

Start with the pipe cleaner. Twist it tight around the "neck", under the hook of the candy cane, and it will form a V. Then shape the ends to look like antlers. Glue the eyes on each side of the "head." Glue the red pompom on to be the nose. Tie the ribbon on for a hanger and string the bell through the ribbon. You'll probably want several for your tree and your wreath.

Painted Pasta Wreath: Pasta paints up very well and is also inexpensive, so why not use it for a Christmas project. You'll need some pasta in a variety of shapes, plus some paper plates that are sturdy, craft glue, craft paint or craft spray paint, and a ribbon and/or other decorations that you might want to hang on your wreath.

Assemble by first cutting a hole out of the middle of the paper plate so you end up with a wreath form. Pick out your pasta and start gluing it all over the wreath form. Try to cover as much of the surface as possible, even overlapping the pasta if you can. Then paint with whatever you have chosen and let the paint dry. Then glue on the ribbon and other embellishments to make your wreath pretty. Keep making them! You'll want in each room!

Cinnamon Cookie Cutter Ornaments: These smell pretty, look pretty, and make great gifts, too. Start with gathering your ingredients and tools. You'll need 4 tablespoons of regular white glue, 1 cup of ground cinnamon, and about 1 cup of water, maybe a little less, for your dough. You'll also need a baking sheet or cookie sheet, a straw or toothpick to form a hole, cookie cutters, and some ribbon or string.

In a bowl, mix together the cinnamon and glue. Add about 1/2 the water, mixing well, then adding more until your dough is like cookie dough. Put the bowl with the dough in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Sprinkle a cutting or pastry board with cinnamon and put your dough on it, kneading the dough until it's smooth. Then, taking your rolling pin, roll the dough out evenly to 1/4 inch thick, sprinkling more cinnamon on the board if the dough sticks. Cut out the shapes using your cookie cutters and set on cookie sheet. Take your straw or toothpick and put a hole in the top of each one. Put the cookie sheet in a warm oven for about 2 hours. Take out and cool. Tie your ribbon through the hole to make a hanger, then hang your ornaments on the tree, or wrap them up for gifts.

Once you start looking, you'll be surprised how many easy Christmas ornament ideas are out there to make with your children. When the days get long over this holiday season, gather your little ones together and make some fun new homemade ornaments... and some memories!
