I would begin with real life story of mine.
I belonged to such category of
kids who never wanted to go to school. I would always show my reluctance to go
to school and hence my parents were really tensed.
So, they tried sending me to a
local school which was hardly 100 meters from my home.
Somehow I got used to school with
the passage of time.
So, I was in class 4th when this
incident took place. In our curriculum, one had to choose either Sanskrit or Urdu as
one subject. Because the population density of Muslims was really high in my
colony and most of the students were Muslims, I was also expected to take Urdu.
My headmaster was quite close to
my father. He was a Hindu Brahman who used to visit us regularly. I still can't
forget the memories of the Puri and Sabji he used to make and feed me as his
own kid. His mother was so lovely that she used to pamper me and other kids in
the school as if all of us were her own grandchildren. Our society still is
very peaceful where both Temple and Mosque is present in the perimeter of not
even 100 meters apart.
Sorry, I get drifted with memories!
Coming back to story again.
So, sir asked me to go back home
and decide which subject I will choose so that necessary arrangements be made.
So, back home in evening time
when my father returned, I thought of having a word with him about choosing the
subject.
Me- which subject should I chose
between Urdu and Sanskrit? Sir has asked me to decide and inform him tomorrow.
(Obviously the conversation was in Hindi)
Dad- I think you should learn
Sanskrit. One should learn as many things as possible about the culture,
language of the country.
I can teach you Urdu at home, but
you must learn Sanskrit in School.
This only happens in India. We
Muslims are born here and will die for this soil. Our religious base might be
from Saudi but in Islam it’s said that serving your own country is the most
important part of the religion.
Edit 1: Feeling proud of my dad
who imbibed in me the traits of multi Culturalism. He doesn't let me click
his pics and loves to remain aloof digital space.
