How To Ensure Effective Tennis Court Maintenance

By Leticia Jensen

A lot of people enjoy playing tennis. Having your own court allows you to play whenever you want. However there will be periods of time when you are not playing. The danger is that during this time you may forget to keep it as well maintained as it should be. This is why you need to maintain effective tennis court maintenance.

In effect the maintenance of a court does not necessarily have to be expensive. Most of what you need to do simply involves being observant and working hard. It is better to do regular maintenance rather than wait until just before the weather warms up and you want to play outside again.

The first thing that you need to do is clear aside debris. Aside from being an obstacle that people playing the game need to avoid there is the additional risk of damage to the surface. Over time the playing area becomes more abrasive and this increases the risk of people slipping and getting hurt.

One of the simplest things to do is to keep it properly swept on a regular basis. This will mean that any debris such as leaves or glass are kept clear of the surface. The most obvious reason is to remove any potential obstacles that people may end up tripping over while they are playing tennis. The other big reason is that debris can damage the surface and make it more abrasive.

The problem is that the build up of moss and algae can add to the hazards while people are playing. Furthermore if you do not clear aside leaves then there is the additional tripping hazard. It may seem overly fussy but if someone misses a crucial point due to tripping on leaves on the court they are unlikely to let you off!

The amount of repainting you have to do will depend on conditions in your local area. Broadly speaking it is recommended that you repaint the surface at least once every three years. If the surface is properly maintained then you will not have to do it as often as you would if the surface is cracked or coated in moss.

It is vital to emphasise that working regularly on the surface is better than having to deal with problems when they get worse. If you see a hairline crack then you ought to get it repaired as soon as possible. This will reduce the amount of damage to the surface and also reduce the risk of anyone getting injured by playing on a damaged surface.

When you do need to resurface you court it is best to use a professional contractor. You can find a number of them online. It is best to contact several and get free estimates to compare prices and services. You should also use your regular search engine to get feedback from customer reviews in order to find the best products and services to keep your court well maintained.
