Tips On Picking A Cheap TV

By Catherine Anderson

Thinking of buying one of the cheap TVs flooding the market? Think again. Other than the attractive price, is there anything else the cheap TV really has to offer? These cheap televisions may require constant repairs in future, which can eat into your expenses and increase your costs. The cheaper the TV, the less likely it is to last too, so you get little value for your money.

The difference in price between the cheapest televisions in the market and brand TVs can be enormous, sometimes as high as two or three times. This is what makes cheap TVs so alluring. However, their quality is not as impressive as their price. One mistake most TV shoppers make is basing their choice on the design and appearance of cheap televisions, which is made to imitate that of brand TVs.

Why the difference in price?

Manufacturers of cheap TV do not have a brand reputation to protect. In fact, most of the time, there is no solid manufacturer information on the package. Since there is no potential damage to brand name and reputation, they tend to be of a poorer quality than brand TVs. They usually develop malfunction after 5 or 6 years of use, and sometimes even two years. This means if you bought a cheap plasma TV, you would be encumbered by repair costs in just a couple of years.

Companies behind brand TVs invest heavily in technology and use the highest and latest advancements in technology to come up with good quality models. Their models are designed for long use and undergo various quality control checks to ensure that they meet industry and company standards. Their staying power is also much higher, and they can last many decades without getting faulty. When you choose a brand TV therefore, you save more over the long term.

Cheap TVs are actually expensive

Spare parts for cheap TVs are hard to find, a situation caused by non-brand manufacturers not bothering to supply adequate parts for their cheap brands and TV dealers not willing to go to the trouble of sourcing for parts from invisible manufacturers. If your cheap plasma TV develops problems therefore, it will take you long to find a suitable repair technician and sometimes, repair may not be possible at all. The alternative would be for you to buy a new television.

The opposite is true of brand TVs. Manufacturers of high quality brands ensure good supply of parts and even provide technical support through specialized repair centers. Brand TVs also have a valid warranty and customers are sure of getting technical support even after the warranty period expires. This is not the case with cheap plasma TVs. Some of them do not have warranties and as mentioned above, have no dedicated repair centers where customers can get served.

Performance is not guaranteed with cheap TVs

A brand TV does not disappoint. It will serve you for years, and won't malfunction as easily as a cheap LCD TV.

Conclusion

For a long term entertainment solution, consider buying high quality TV brands. They have better features, are more reliable than cheap TVs, and you are guaranteed of getting technical support from the manufacturer or authorized technicians whenever you need it.
