By Darren Bradley

There is a growing trend in the housing market now and that is making the decision to remodel your house. The declining housing market is prompting more and more home owners to make updates and beautiful changes to their homes. One area that will add significant value to the home is definitely in the kitchen.

Typically, when you remodel your kitchen, you can get up to sixty percent of what you spent back in value in your home. Kitchen remodels can get incredibly expensive, so one area you can start pretty inexpensively is the sink. The new hot trend is to replace old sinks with beautiful copper kitchen sinks.

For many people, copper kitchen sinks do not sound appealing in the least, but there are many advantages to installing one that you may not even have heard of. Back in high school science classes, you had to study the properties of different elements, but never really thought it would apply to everyday life, until now.

Remember, because copper oxidizes as it gets older, copper kitchen sinks will eventually obtain a beautiful, antique golden-brown tone. It will give your sink a wonderful coloring and texture that you simply can't replicate with stainless steel or porcelain.

Another surprisingly true and little known fact about copper sinks, is they are more hygienic thank porcelain or stainless steel. Coppers elemental component gives it a natural property that doesnt allow bacteria or germs to breed and live on the surface for very long.

Also, since germs cannot breed on the surface, you will not need all those harsh chemicals and cleaners to maintain your sink. Many people are very concerned with using those chemicals so near the foods they ingest, so they will no longer need them with a copper sink. This also makes copper kitchen sinks easier to maintain in the long run.

Most importantly, there are a variety of styles and finishes that copper sinks come in. They are versatile and give your kitchen a classic feel.

So when you are remodeling your kitchen, give copper kitchen sinks some serious thought. They have a lot to offer, and your high school science lesson on copper might actually come in handy.
