Iran is significantly stronger than Israel,
both militarily and economically, mainly because it is a country of 10x
population and 80x size.
It’s like comparing China and Mongolia.
Iran’s GDP in terms of PPP is about 2
trillion USD. Israel is about 500 billion USD (4x smaller).
(One might object, why use GDP in PPP vs
nominal? Because Iran makes missiles that cost $100k, while Israel makes
similar missiles that cost $500k. Those missiles are the same, they do the
same, they look the same, one of them costs 5x. Why would anyone care about the
cost, if the produced product is identical?)
Iran has a relatively advanced, but not
very robust military, with millions of potential soldiers. Israel has a very
advanced, relatively robust military, also with millions of potential soldiers.
But its population is simply 10x less than Iran.
Israel however, has a lot more
international influence, due to its intellectual and technological output. It
has good relations with a lot of countries, and most of those countries do not
want to damage their relations with a technological and intellectual
powerhouse.
Iran also has the potential to be in a similar situation, but it’s potentially 100 years in the future.
