King Philip II, the Macedonian ruler, father of Alexander the Great, after taking most of the Greek city-states sent a letter to Laconia, Sparta.
It said, "You were advised to submit
without further delay. For, if I bring my army into your land, I will destroy
your farms, slay your people and raze your city".
To which the Spartans replied with one
word: "if".
It seems as though the Spartans were really
badasses in reality as depicted in the movie too.
