Highlights On Prisoner Transport Systems

By Sarah Harris

The movement of inmates from one prison to another is a very dangerous task. Over the past years, there have been incidences where the inmates escape from the vehicles while in transit to the lock out areas. This has necessitated the need to come up with much effective ways of moving them safely to the intended prisons and minimizing the event of their plotted escapes. A number of prisoner transport systems have been enacted through the licensing of companies with the ability to handle these people.

The need to hire private transporters by the state has come with a number of strict requirements. For a firm to be recognized as a transport agency, it should have highly trained officers preferably those with a military or criminal justice backgrounds. They should have worked as agents for some years hence have the experience of handling these dangerous people and keep them safe.

The nature of facilities used in moving the convicts is also inspected. Only special vans that have met the required standards are used. The vehicles are well armored to protect external attacks by other gangs. The windows are well armored and the inner section partitioned to keep the driver and other officers safe from the convicts intentions.

In effort to try and minimize the previous attacks that in mate vehicles have suffered, transporters are required to have a fleet of vehicles on the day of moving these people. One is meant to carry the convicts together with a few officers on board. Several cars are then supposed to escort the main vessel. The escorts are required to be well armed to keep the in mates safe from any attacks.

The cost of hiring these vans is quite affordable. Various companies have set the prices at different levels depending on the capacity of the vehicle. Larger buses are hired where the number of in mates is very high in order to offer them quality transport. The pricing of services provided is done according to the capacity of these vehicles.

Special designing of interiors is required for safety purposes. Strong seats fitted with seat belts should be present at the time of hiring. Some have been designed in a manner that the prisoner is locked and chained on the legs while at the seat. This aims at keeping the officers safe from assaults by the convicts.

Recent advancements require that any vehicle transporting the prisoners be put under track during the journey. This has been done in effort to protect the officers and the in mates from any threats. Officers on board are required to keep communicating to the service centers at the stations in order to report any incidences that require immediate attention.

The duty of transport agencies is to offer a nationwide operations when needed. This is why some have acquired special vessels such as planes that are much effective in moving the prisoners within a short time. This has helped save on the costs involved and secure the whole state from the risks of in mates escaping.
