Live Healthier And Longer With Preventative Lifestyle Medicine

By April Briggs

Life comes with its own unique set of challenges and joys. One of the challenges is failing health and most people want to avoid this challenge. Many people though, have come to realize that the way they have been treating their bodies may have been contributing to their ill health. Additionally some are beginning to realize that even if they are doing things that will directly harm their bodies, there are steps that can be taken to keep ill health at bay. These persons are turning to preventative lifestyle medicine for a solution.

Sometimes changing your lifestyle can extend your life or improve its quality. Persons who adopt a healthy lifestyle early on in life are less likely to face certain illnesses. This is a statement that has been proven by many who change their habits and as a result experience better health.

Doctors and other health care experts rely on these types of medicines to help patients who want to be proactive in their health care. A careful evaluation of each patient's current status and medical history is done to determine the likelihood of the individual ending up with an ailment. After this is done the doctor will suggest and prescribe drugs that will help to prevent the onset of the ailment.

Some of these drugs may be accessed over the counter. Aspirin is a prime example of this type of medication. It is used by many persons who are at a high risk for heart attacks to stave off the deadly condition. It does this because it is actually a blood thinner. It's blood thinning properties make it an ideal drug for the prevention of clogged arteries or blood vessels.

Vaccination is another form of prevention geared medicine. Vaccines are essentially drugs that are designed to build the body's ability to fight diseases. In many countries around the world it is mandatory that children be vaccinated against diseases such as Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Tetanus.

Adults also get vaccines from time to time too. One popular vaccine among adults is the flu vaccine. At the start of the flu season each year, millions of men and women head to their health care providers to get their flu shots. They do this because they want to have the latest defense against the flu virus. This is a necessary move because each year the flu virus mutates and new strains are created, rendering old vaccines ineffective

One vaccine is relatively new in the medical field. It is known as the HPV vaccine and is administered to women and girls around the world. The aim of this vaccine is the reduce the possibility that a female may contract the Human Papillomavirus. This eventually also reduces their likelihood of having Cervical Cancer, a potentially deadly disease that is caused by some types of the HPV virus.

It is important for you to think and plan ahead for life's eventualities. It is important to note that the same principle should be applied to your health as well though. After all, if your health fails, all else is lost, since without optimum health you simply cannot get on with all the other aspects of life.
