Live Healthier And Longer With Preventative Lifestyle Medicine

By April Briggs

One of the unfortunate aspects of life is illnesses. Some illnesses come about as a result of poor life choices. Others are just natural occurrences that are related to unavoidable factors such as aging or genetics. Regardless of the root cause though preventative lifestyle medicine can help people to avoid many of the illnesses that they face.

A large number of illnesses can be avoided with this approach to health care. This ultimately results in a longer life expectancy for those who adopt this type of care. It also means a better quality of life.

Doctors and other health care experts rely on these types of medicines to help patients who want to be proactive in their health care. A careful evaluation of each patient's current status and medical history is done to determine the likelihood of the individual ending up with an ailment. After this is done the doctor will suggest and prescribe drugs that will help to prevent the onset of the ailment.

The drugs that doctors recommend for the prevention of ailments can sometimes be sourced over the counter. One such drug is aspirin. It is used by many to lower the possibility of a heart attack. This effect is achieved because aspirin is a blood thinner which essentially means that it ensures that the blood is thin enough to flow freely through veins and arteries. This works well for those who are at risk for heart attacks because heart attacks are triggered by blocked or clogged arteries.

In addition to prescribing drugs doctors also use vaccines to help patients stave off illnesses. A vaccine is basically a drug that is administered by a nurse or doctor with the aim of boosting the body's power to fight illnesses. Vaccines are typically associated with children as most countries have compulsory vaccination policies for children.

Adults also get vaccinated. One popular vaccination among adults is the flu vaccine. Each year, at the start of the flu season, millions of people get their flu shots or flu vaccine. This is necessary annually because flu viruses are constantly mutating and so scientists have to constantly be adjusting the vaccines in order to ensure that they can stand up to the latest strain of the flu.

One vaccine is relatively new in the medical field. It is known as the HPV vaccine and is administered to women and girls around the world. The aim of this vaccine is the reduce the possibility that a female may contract the Human Papillomavirus. This eventually also reduces their likelihood of having Cervical Cancer, a potentially deadly disease that is caused by some types of the HPV virus.

It is important for you to think and plan ahead for life's eventualities. It is important to note that the same principle should be applied to your health as well though. After all, if your health fails, all else is lost, since without optimum health you simply cannot get on with all the other aspects of life.
