First Aid Suvival Kit Planning

By Tammie Caldwell

No one plans on having an accident but regardless of the amount of planning and prevention, people still end up with cuts, bruises and sprained joints. When planning for preparedness, it is a good idea to stock your First Aid suvival kit so that it is ready for any occasion. Let's look at a few places where accidents happen, and emergencies need temporary medical attention.

Home is a place to relax and enjoy time with family and away from work. However, statistics indicates it is also where the greatest number of accidents occur. People clean out the gutters and fall off the ladders, decide to trim trees and end up breaking an arm as they land soundly on the ground. Even the kitchen is not safe from getting burned while cooking on the stove or roasting a ham in the oven.

One of the hottest trends is surviving without modern conveniences, but even with the greatest care and attention to safety there is still a chance the outing results in some injury. In the great outdoors, fresh, clean water for cleansing wounds is often scarce, and other liquids intended for this purpose add weight to backpack. Handy wipes are less bulky and offer a sterile means of cleaning wounds.

Military injuries escalate to severe conditions, but not all soldier exercises are on the battlefield. Some people prefer using these kits as they offer additional equipment for more major issues. A gaping wound needs both a means of stopping the bleeding as well as keeping out insects and dirt and debris. A wide and strong adhesive tape comes in very handy.

Roadside emergencies often involve more than just a flat tire. These situations often result in scraped knuckles, cuts from metal and other injuries. Most people keep an emergency kit with traffic flares included, but these kits should also include the basics of emergency injuries and other medical needs. Do not forget that headaches also happen and some form of medication will ease the pain.

The corporate world typically has break rooms and lounges where people go take their regular breaks. This is also where people with injuries are taken to help keep them settled until an ambulance arrives. Even stroke and heart attack victims need some medical attention before the professionals arrive, and sometimes the only ingredient needs is some smelling salts.

Emergency situations happen everywhere, even at funerals and weddings. People faint, twist their ankles, and skin their knees when they miss one of the steps leading down out of the chapel. It is a good idea to have an emergency kit that prepared for everything from a bruised elbow to a finger cut. After all, brides and their party even rip off fingernails in the rush to make it down the aisle on time.

Accidents happen at any time, every day and without notice. However, the outcome is easier to handle when fully prepared for any injury with the proper cleaning agents, wound dressings and antiseptic. It is a good idea to have these items in a convenient travel kit where they are within reach in an emergency. When preparing for a travel weekend, finishing a project in the garage, or planning a weekend in the mountains, be sure you choose emergency supplies designed for the occasion.
