Why Cases Of Unclaimed Freight Have Been On The Rise

There has been an increased number of people who opt to order goods from other countries. During the shipping process, there has been a rise in cases on unclaimed freight in various ports. These items are salvaged and in most cases stored in huge bulk stores as they await the respective owners to claim them. In cases where the items are not claimed for a long time, the respective shipping companies have every right to find a way to dispose of these items. Some may opt to auction these items directly or hire auctioning a liquidator companies to take up the job of selling the items.

In most cases, uncollected cargo is shipment from a manufacturer or distributor that was left uncollected or lost. These items are mostly newly manufactured items that are lost or delivered to the wrong place. In most cases they are unused goods which could even have tags on them. The loss of these goods easily result to losses of huge amounts to the owner.

Some of the reasons why cargo lack owners in most cases include death, increased taxes among other reasons. When this cargo [s uncollected, the goods are auctioned. Given the fact that no one would spend so much money to ship worthless goods, most of these auctions are very intense with large numbers of people bidding on the quality goods. The proceeds from the auction are paid to the storage company, the shipping container company and the remaining amount is paid to the initial owner of the goods.

Sometimes, when ordering these goods, customers may easily quote the wrong address. This mistake results to the delivery of the goods to the wrong addresses. Ones the goods are not claimed; the shipping companies have every right to auction them.

Import tax can be very high and that is the reason why everyone should be aware of all costs that come with importing goods to avoid these huge losses.Sometimes, the owners of those goods may just decide to disappear and abandon the cargo. It could be due to legal reasons or other personal reasons. Doing so renders the goods unclaimed. This puts the goods in the hands of the shipping companies who may in turn opt to auction.

Sometimes, goods are delivered to the wrong location or country. In this cases, unless the owner pays for the freight to be transported to the right address, these goods are considered unclaimed. It is thus important to always keep in touch with the shipping companies during the transit of the freight.

In some cases some goods may not be cleared for collection by the port officials due to legal issues. For instance, the freight may have been used in illegal deals. In these cases, the freight is not cleared from the ports. The investigations and court cases may take a very long time.Ones completed, most of these goods are left unclaimed since once the cases are completed the need for these goods may no longer be there.

Shipping companies should always be ready to have cases of uncollected freight. They should always have reliable auctioning companies to clear out the huge stacks of these cargo. This not only clears them to create space for new arrivals but also ensures that they protect themselves from any legal losses they may get into by being in possession of the freight.
