Guidelines On How To Apply For Canadian Residency

By Agnes Dickson

Being a permanent resident of a country means you can live and work anywhere in that country. But, you could not vote or hold office. You are also not allowed to remain outside that country for a number of years. You are allowed to attend school and for some countries you receive health benefits.

You could enjoy those benefits when you will be one of their residents at Canada. There is a guideline on how to apply for Canadian residency. You must comply these guidelines so you will qualify for it.

First, you should understand that you may be a resident but you are still not a citizen of that country. You also have to pay taxes and obey the law. If you are a resident, you may apply for citizenship after living there for a number of years.

It is essential that you have their Permanent Resident Card. A card like this will be proving that you are one of its residents. When you go outside the country, you will use this card to come back to the country. A plastic card like this resembles your cards for healthcare and your license. You will be receiving this in the mail as you become a Canadian resident. It will be effective for more or less 5 years. After 5 years, you will need to renew the card.

To get one, you should gather the documents which are needed first. You need a primary identity document like your passport and travel documents. You also need a secondary identity document. You can submit a copy of either your driving license, your student card, or tax documents. You could provide more of it for additional proof. If you are under 18, you should provide a copy of your birth certificate or documents from your guardian.

Have 2 of your photos placed inside a small envelope. They must be taken within the 12 month period of the application. Have your name written on that envelope. It must also clearly show your facial features. You should have a neutral look in the photo. You can wear your glasses or an accessory but be sure it will not hide your facial features.

If one of your documents is not in English or French, you should include an English or French translation of it. You should also include an affidavit from the person who translated that. Make sure it is certified. The copy must not be certified by a family member. You should remember that it should be certified in Canada.

Complete the form for application. Make sure that what you have provided is accurate. If there is missing information, it will be returned and will just cause a delay. Pay its fee. For now, it has a 50 US dollar cost. Print your receipt for added proof. Have them mailed to a processing center.

Having Canadian residency gives you lots of benefits. Your rights and benefits would almost be like be a citizenship. You will also be protected by their law. If you want to become one, just be sure that you are qualified to apply.
