Industries Which Make Use Of Precision Stampings

By Katie Nixon

When people talk about the techniques used to form certain shapes from sheets of metal they are most likely referring to the processes of metalworking known as stamping or pressing. In the metalworking process embossing, punching or machine pressing are common techniques used to create the desired form. These precision stamping techniques are used across many different industry sectors to meet the individual needs of the customer and to make the most of the different qualities of the metals used. Below are some of the main industries in which metal stamped products will be used.

Firstly there is stamping for the electronics industry. Metal pressings can be used for circuit boards and other electronic products, where beryllium copper may also be needed for electrical conductivity purposes.

Secondly, precision stamping is widely used in the automotive industry, where a large amount of complex parts are required for the manufacture of cars, vans, lorries and other vehicles. Pressing techniques are harnessed to produce items such as transmission components, interior and exterior lights, engine parts and safety related devices. Specialist stamping businesses will design and create these component parts making use of a wide range of metal stamping processes. As expected in the automotive industry, it is widely accepted that these parts will need to meet stringent quality standards as for obvious reasons manufacturers need to uphold motoring safety at all times.

Another industry in which precision stamped metal parts are used in the medical sector. Medical equipment and machinery is of course extremely complex and therefore any component parts produced must adhere to strict regulations in terms of size and specification in order to ensure this machinery and equipment can function effectively.

Metal pressing can be used to produce components for surgical devices, implantable devices as well as other micro components. Again strict standards will need to be met for any stamped components produced for customers in the medical sector.

Of course there are a number of other industry sectors in which stamped metal parts will be widely used. Some of these examples may include the marine, agriculture, aerospace and telecoms industries. More information on the industry applications of metal pressings can be found by looking online or speaking with a specialist metalworking company.
