Not All Cleanroom Wipes Are Created Equal

By Megan Landry

The clean rooms that you have in your facility are where the money your firm makes come from. They are critical environments that require a different mind set than is used on any other manufacturing line. The special chemicals and processes that are used to keep it clean also require that Cleanroom wipes be used to help prevent re contaminating the area.

Paper towels or cloths that are used in every other area of the facility will shed particles. These are fibers and other parts of the towel or cloth that will shake off and become a contaminant themselves. These land on surfaces and will probably not be noticed and, if they are, are not a big problem outside of the clean room.

The wipes used in clean rooms, across the globe, are constructed so that no fibers, used in their construction can shake off or particulate away from the cloth. They do have the feel of cloth and not paper as they are formulated from cloth fibers and not paper. This creates a higher quality of wipe and much too expensive to be used for any other purpose.

These wipes are made in a clean room and with only the best materials. That material is non natural fibers so that the problems with the particulates coming off of a wool or cotton material is not present. It does not have the short fibers that compose a paper towel so these are not an issue. They are also double packaged while still in the clean room they are made in.

A large number of the wipes thus manufactured are tested for particulate matter. This is done within a round chamber with baffles in it to aggravate the wipe while it is being tumbled. After the appropriate number of revolutions, the air is filtered out and the number of particles are counted. That test must fall within the standards set for it by ISO requirements for cleanliness standards.

The basic unit for measurement in a clean room is the micron. This unit of measurement equates to 24,600 to an inch. A class 10 or ISO class 3 must not have more than 10 particles, in the air, larger than one half of a micron per square foot. The wipe that is used in this room must not generate that much of a contamination risk.

Makers of these clean room cloths will be names that most people know. They do have a large following and their products are valued the world over. The manufacturing, testing, packaging and distribution makes sure that all clients are happy with the cleanliness and quality of their wipes.

These Cleanroom wipes are used to clean parts in electronic and pharmaceutical clean rooms. They are used to set products on while they are being assembled. They are also the ones that are used by the custodial clean room technicians to clean the facility from top to bottom. Since your money is made in the clean room, the costs of providing the world class products you do offer demand the best. This means the best workers, the best chemicals and the best wipes money can buy.
