5 Tricks To Learning A Foreign Language Easily

By Alexandra Peterson

You don't have to stress out about learning a new language. There are shortcuts and tricks that you can use to help you to make the most of your time and learn any new language quickly and easily. Even though learning a new language can be frustrating and time consuming for some of us, the ability to communicate with someone from another country in their own language is a thrill and a skill that you'll be happy that you invested some time in. With that being said, here are some tips to help you on your way to becoming fluent in a foreign language.

Speaking with native speakers is a tool that you might be hesitant to use but nothing will give you the feedback and practice that speaking with those that are fluent in your chosen language. You can often find native speakers locally who will welcome you to meet with them and both listen and speak with them in their native tongue. Sometimes immigrants will be glad to have the opportunity to not only help you but also hone their English speaking skills at the same time.

Drill new words into your brain by writing, hearing, speaking and visualizing that word over and over again. It might take several dozen to a hundred repetitions of the word that you're trying to learn before you know it or it comes to your mind naturally but if you repeat the word in all of these forms you will learn much quicker and your vocabulary will grow by leaps and bounds.

If you're like most of us, you have huge gaps of time in your day where you could be learning your new language. Most of us have to spend some time commuting to and from work and usually this time is very unpleasant. Listen to some recordings of native speakers or practice your pronunciation instead of being unhappy during your daily commute. You will find that your day is less stressful as well as being more productive as you use this wasted time to learn your foreign language.

Even if you're not fluent in the language that you're trying to learn, watching movies in that language can help you and also boost your confidence. The ability to listen and comprehend are stretched and you might surprise yourself with how much you understand. Let your mind soak up all the words and even if you don't understand everything at the moment, you'll become familiar with these words and it will be easier to learn them in the near future.

Repetition can't be understated when it comes to learning a new language. For anything to become a habit or be done without thinking it's necessary to repeat the desired result many times. While this might become tiresome after a short while, the end result is what should be important to you. The payoff for all of your hard work will be when you instinctively understand and reply to a native speaker and they are impressed with your mastery of the language.
