Over The Years Goodyear Tires Have Made Some Very Momentous Appearances

By Alexa A. Bartell

An interesting fact to know is that Goodyear Tires are manufactured by the Goodyear Tire And Rubber Company named for Charles Goodyear even though he did not have a direct connection with the company. If we look a little further into the company history it will make more sense. Mr. Goodyear was the original inventor of vulcanized rubber in the year 1839, so when Frank Seiberling created the company in 1898 he named it after the inventor. The tires they produced very quickly became popular because the vulcanized rubber made them easily detachable and required very little maintenance.

They employ testing standards that are higher than those issued by the government as they strive to manufacture the best tires that are on the road making them well-known for their quality products. They offer quality tires of this type for private passenger vehicles, trucks, an SUV, a trailer and also for All Terrain Vehicles. As we take a peek at the history of this company we will see that they made an impressive appearance at some important historical events with excellent products that this company is well known for manufacturing in addition to those listed quality tires.

At their location in Akron Ohio in the year 1898 the first Goodyear Tires were developed. The items that they specialized in during that time were tires for carriages and bicycles, poker chips and horseshoe pads. Henry Ford used racing tires made by them in 1901 and they got the patent for the first tubeless automobile tire in 1903. They manufactured pneumatic aircraft tires in 1909 that were the first of that kind. The first airship envelope was developed by them in 1911 followed by the Goodyear blimp's 1912 debut.

They were the world's largest rubber producer by 1926 and became listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1927 with their initial public offering. The first American-made synthetic rubber tire was developed by them in 1937 followed by the first nylon tires in 1947. During the next period of time their racing tires were equipped on more winning race cars than any other brand. In the 1970s they were the manufacturer for the tires on Apollo 14 which were the first tires on the moon. The drivers in the Indianapolis 500 all used tires supplied from this company by 1975.

Among the world's largest manufacturers of tires we must also mention the Michelin tires that are available in an impressive line. Driver satisfaction that can be experienced on the highways, city streets and even at off-road events is the focus of this manufacturer to provide all around excellence.
