How To Sell Wine With Passion

By Kathy Kaufman

If you want to sell wine, you will find that there is plenty of opportunity to do so. There are many types of wines available and you can specialize in something, or you can decide to go the general route. Of course, this type of knowledge does not build up overnight, and there are lots of ways that you can learn about this.

Of course, if you are just selling inexpensive wine at a supermarket, then all of this is not as important. You can't be expected to know about every single product on the shelves. You need to know about the prices and where they come from, but you probably don't need to know much more than that. You may find an interest for wine right here, and move onto the next level.

Wine is not cheap, especially when it comes to those from the countries like France and Spain, so people will take time to decide. You can have a couple of different types available. Those from South Africa are often cheaper. You will also find that they are also less expensive and many people rave about these wines.

In saying that, they will just be learning about the product that they know about most. They won't know about Californian wines or South African wines. This is probably the biggest difference. However, this just comes with experience. This is not something you can really learn out of a text book. You can go on a short course, but you really have to gain firsthand experience, and that is what is going to get you there.

Some people start off selling wines in a general supermarket. You are not expected to know anything about the wines. However, you get all sorts of wines here from all over the world. You are still earning your money, but at the same time, you are learning about the new wines that are coming in, and this is also a good idea.

Some people who work at a winery, will not only be involved with the selling of the wines, but they also have to give tours. For this to happen, you have to know a lot about the history and about the estate. All of the basics work the same generally, but there will be extras that need to be added in, depending on where you are working.

You can end up at a place like Tuscany or in the countryside in France, where you will be entertaining people, who will mostly be tourists. This is where you can learn about wines from this part of the region, before going somewhere else like California or Australia. In a place, like South Africa, they need people to give wine tours.

Whether you decide to sell wine at a winery or in a specialized wine shop, there is no doubt; you really have to have expert knowledge. Of course, the best way to learn is through experience. You may even want to volunteer in the beginning because this is really going to help you get ahead before you start giving more advice and learning about all of the wines.
