Advice For Achieving That Perfect Sunless Tan

By Haywood Hunter

Achieving a sun-kissed, healthy glow is important to many people. Equally important, however, is avoiding harmful exposure to UVA and UVB rays. With skillful application, today's sunless tanners can generate the look desired, yet are safer than sunbathing. Some suggestions for the use of sunless tanners should help achieve the look that is coveted by many people today.

Selection of the right products is the key to achieving the perfect color. There are many on the market today, but the best ones interact with skin cells working only on the outer layer of the epidermis. Sunless tanners that claim they penetrate the under layer should be.

Another key is to ensure that the correct amount is used. Using more sunless tanner than is recommended will not be beneficial. This requires selecting the shade desired that works best with one's skin tone. For those with fair skin, sunless tanners that are extremely dark should be avoided as they make the skin appear mask-like.

Lotions, creams, powders, and sprays are common forms of sunless tanners. Research has shown that lotions last longer, but sprays achieve better results. This is because those applying them can reach areas that are difficult for an individual. Sunless sprays also go on more evenly than those in other forms.

Proper preparation is also important prior to applying sunless products. Without exfoliating skin first, an uneven color may result. Equally important is limited contact with the hands as the palms will turn bronze if not washed frequently while using sunless products.

It takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour to apply sunless tanning products and an additional 3 hours to dry. Therefore, it is important to apply products during a time when limited clothing and distractions are not a problem. With changes in this industry sunless tanning products have become easy to apply and convenient. Best of all, achieving that sun-kissed glow that is so coveted today is faster than ever.
