It was incredibly difficult to have to face the fact that my parents were getting older and were losing their abilities to take care of themselves, but eventually I had to admit that they needed some help and I started looking into different options for them, which included finding senior care consultants. The problem that I had however, was that I had no clue what options were available, since my parents were not in such bad shape that they needed to be in a nursing home, but they just needed a little bit of help in taking care of themselves, while still wanting to keep their independence.
I talked with my siblings about the situation, as well as one of my close friends who had gone through a similar situation with her parents, and it appeared that the best option would be to find them a nice retirement community. In a retirement community, they would still be able to live mainly independently, but we would have the comfort of knowing that whenever they needed help, it would be right there for them.
At that point however, I had the big job of choosing which retirement community to go with, as I learned that there were quite a few of these communities in the area. I also really wanted to be able to talk with some senior care consultants to get an inkling of what kind of care they would be receiving so that I could feel assured they were not being neglected.
I hopped on my computer to look at the websites for the different retirement communities in the area, and as I learned more about them I was able to narrow down my search until I found the perfect place for my parents. I talked to a representative at the community and we set up a time that I could bring my parents to tour the community, so that we could get an idea if it would be a place that my parents would be happy with.
I was delighted to see that my parents loved the place, and we were all impressed with how the staff and management were all so friendly and helpful and ready to resolve any worries they had. As we were leaving, they gave us a senior living guide that provided us with all of the information we could have ever asked for, and it helped us to make our final decision, which turned out to be one of the best decisions we had ever made, as my parents are absolutely loving it there!
