Music Skills & Lifelong Learning

By Anne Weaver

One too many parents dream that someday, they can watch their children perform on stage, before a audience, playing a song that is good music to everyone's ears. More than a few realise that dream and are thankful that they made a decision to sign up their kids to those music lessons. But it is important to note that turning a kid into a musician isn't all about fulfilling the parents' fantasies. There are a lot of benefits which such lessons bring to the kid himself or herself. In the following paragraphs, we will be enumerating few of them. For one, keyboard lessons help children to perform better in school than their non-musical counterparts. Studies show that kids who enrolled in keyboard lessons perform better particularly in subjects such as math, science and engineering - areas which most of their peers commonly find trouble in understanding.

Secondly, playing music isn't exactly simple. That said, a kid learns to remain positive believing that he or she has what it takes to succeed in the seemingly difficult task. He or she likewise learns the value of patience and appreciates the importance of practice to outdo his or her last best performance. Simply put, a child knows that he or she shouldn't be afraid to confront challenges by being discouraged and frustrated too soon.

The same kid also develops focus while he or she reads, interprets and translates a piece of music. Understanding each note while keeping up with the pace of the progression is not all that simple. But the child must nonetheless learn quick because there's not much room for error especially during live performances. Through such training, the child hones his or her creativity and critical thinking and uses the same skills in other areas of life.

Moreover, since a child will have to deal with the challenge of performing before a crowd, he or she is able to build the confidence required to overcome it. At the same time, the kid learns to display poise and grace under pressure. Through his or her lessons, a kid develops an understanding that stress is an essential part of the learning process. Because of this, he or she prepares well in order to give each performance his or her best shot.

By learning to play music using the piano, kids acquire the skills and knowledge which can actually help find it easier to make pleasing sounds using other musical instruments. The schools that offer keyboard classes in Singapore normally include Guitar lessons in their programs too. So if your kid enjoyed his or her lessons in piano, it is best to encourage him or her to pursue his or her love for the craft. As your young person strives to become a better musician, you will enjoy hearing melodies of great composers and eventually, original compositions which will surely make you an even prouder parent.
