Ford Giving Boss 302 Mustang Up After 2013 Design Year

By Cornelius Nunev

Ford does like to restore classic editions of the Mustang, the vehicle makers' iconic muscle coupe. The Boss 302 Mustang, for instance, was recently revived, but the model will be dumped from the lineup.

Not being created for long

The Boss 302 is just one of the Ford vehicles that people remember. During the last decade, Ford has been creating many Mustangs of the past in celebration, such as the Shelby GT500 Mustang or the 1968 GT fastback used in "Bullitt."

The original Boss 302 was produced from 1969 to 1970 and had a 5.0-liter V-8 that has been in the Mustang ever since.

The Boss 302 Mustang is being dumped from the collection next year, according to AutoGuide, meaning history is repeating itself.

Surprise not there for most

If you needed a Boss 302 Mustang, you had better get to a dealership such as Courtesy Ford in Brooklyn soon. It was expected that manufacturing would end since Ford only promised to produce the Mustang for two years.

There are a few other changes in store for the 2014 model year, including two new colors, according to InsideLine, Oxford White and Ruby Red Metallic with Tinted Clear Coat. High Performance White and Red Candy Metallic with Tinted Clear Coat are also dumped.

The Shelby Mustang will have heated front seats accessible, but that is not the case with Recaro seats, according to AutoBlog. There will be black caps for the two side mirrors and a black rear deck-lid spoiler available.

Last blast before redesign

AutoTrader Classics points out that a 1970 Boss 302 will go for $73,000, which means the Boss 302 Mustang could become a collectible once it is no longer sold. That means the value will rise.

The Mustang will be a totally different car in 2015 when it hits its 50th anniversary. Spy shots at Car and Driver and Automobile magazine showed that the 2015 Mustang is smaller than the current vehicle and has more curves than we are used to seeing.

An EcoBoost turbo four-cylinder is anticipated to be offered, that will be more powerful than the current base V-6, which produces a respectable 300 horsepower, and offer better fuel economy. A V-8 will, naturally, be accessible, likely a 5.0-liter.

The big news is that the vehicle will also get an independent rear suspension. The Mustang has only once been offered with an independent suspension, the SVT Cobra offered from 1999 to 2004. All iterations of the Mustang have been offered with a live rear axle, which is basically an iron bar with tires on either end.
