Post-Party Remedies to Try on Holiday

By Catherine McCulloch

Every country around the world has a national brew or tipple to tempt us. Copenhagen has its beers, South Africa has its wine, and even Cyprus has the Brandy Sour cocktail cruelly waiting to greet us. But we need not fear, for here are a few post-party remedies to try on holiday. Yes, even all-nighters in Ibiza can be tackled!

On holiday, you lose a lot of water when you sweat. To replenish, be sure to stock up on lots of water throughout the day. It's also important to eat a large meal so you have something to soak the alcohol up with and aren't drinking on an empty stomach, the first cause of a hangover.

When you and your friends eventually stumble back to your cheap hotels after a night out in Costa del What-Was-I-Thinking, drink a couple of glasses of water and have another next to your bed for when you wake up in the morning (or mid-afternoon) with a severe bout of cottonmouth.

The next day, stay hydrated again with water and also try some fruit juice. The glucose in it will do you good and get your sugar levels back up from the night before. Also a little caffeine will work wonders too, so have a coffee or a tea, which will do just the trick.

Then have a shower. Not only will you feel more refreshed and more awake, but if you have a cool shower, it'll do your body good while giving you an extra boost of energy. Remember to have a big breakfast with lots of carbs to soak up any excess alcohol that your dinner failed to do so the night before. And finally, it's important to go prepared. Pack some ibuprofen (although only take with a meal - not on a drunk, empty stomach) or alternatively a tried-and-tested natural remedy like milk thistle tablets.
