I have always been interested in current affairs and I try my best to stay on top of all of the latest political news and information, and I really enjoy discussing these issues with others who share my interests. I normally enjoy these discussions very much, but after a while, I find that our discussions would get dull, so I wanted to look for different venues for discussions.
I have been dissatisfied by what I have found though, that most of the places I have found are one sided, or they have a lot of name calling and profanity. It seems that in this political climate, no one will acknowledge that anyone with an opposing viewpoint could have any valid points, and they simply try to vilify the other side.
I wanted something better in terms of discussing current affairs, and fortunately, after months of suffering from the harsh, terrible world of the Internet, I discovered a website that offered something new. This website provided a place where people can write out an article expressing their views on a subject and post it on the website, and then they wait for someone else to write a counter argument.
It was an elegantly designed website that gave people the chance to debate online about their favorite issues and events before voting on which argument was better. There was also a place for comments, but these comments could only be written by those who had logged on and created accounts, a system that helped reduce the numbers of jerks who under the shroud of anonymity, spewed hatred at everyone. Because of this, the debate tends to be reasonable and instead of constant comparisons to Hitler, the people who vote are encouraged to read the different opinions before casting their votes.
I've since written several articles about the topics most dear to my heart, and while I feel that I am able to craft a compelling argument, I also feel that I can concede points to my opposition when they express themselves intelligently and in a compelling way. I really, really cherish a thrilling debate, but while I used to just pester my acquaintances with my thoughts and opinions, now, I can take my views to the rest of the world and rather than feel like I am forcing my views on everyone, I feel like I can help raise the level of discourse out there and find a way for people to explore the real issues in a productive way.
