5 Tips To Help New Parents Get Some Sleep

By Sandee Roman

The joy of a new baby is certainly special and something that all new parents experience. However, an absence of sleep is also part of having a new baby and new parents notoriously get very little sleep, if any at all. Every parent is waiting for the glorious day when their baby sleeps through the night. Parents normal sleeping patterns are often disrupted by babies who nap through the day and then cry at night.

Tip #1 Take Turns It is suggested that a parent should try to sleep when the baby is napping. However, in the first couple of months both parents may get up each time the baby cries. This will lead to a lack of sleep for both parents. You should schedule your infants bath time just before put your baby down to sleep. Bedtime should to be about the same time every night because babies and sleeping routines are important.

Tip #2 Nap With Baby If you are tending for the baby and are tired and the baby goes to sleep then you should take a nap as well. There are times when you can be baffled with your baby's crying. So, whether the baby naps in the morning, afternoon, or early evening you should also get a little rest because you never know when the baby might wake up.

Tip #3 Accept Help You will need to acknowledge the unfortunate fact that babies and sleeping don't always go together. So, when you wish to get some sleep just accept some of the help that is being offered. Having your mom care for the baby just a couple of hours will allow you to get some much needed sleep.

Tip #4 Keep Baby in Nursery Time away from your child is just as essential as quality time with your child. So, from time to time, go to bed early with earplugs. If possible even sleep in your own room. Let dad take care of the waking up at night and let him carry the baby to you for nursing. Also 20 minutes will make a difference. And going to sleep alongside your infant can be really cosy! If you make sure that your baby is full when you go to sleep, chances are that you will get a few undisturbed hours when they are the most important.

Tip #5 Feed Baby Before You Sleep Their baby falls asleep in the car and is then carried gingerly to bed. There are some babies that are unable to fall asleep in their cot. As a new mommy it can be really hard to get the sleep you need. The challenges of having a new baby can take their toll, but when you are focusing on your bundle of joy, don't forget to take care of yourself.
