Sun Peaks Community Ski Resort Offers A Lot For Visitors

By Marsha Silva

Tucked in the mountains of British Columbia is a new resort to relax and wind down or enjoy an active holiday. Sun Peaks community is a destination for all seasons. It is the third largest ski resort in Canada situated about 35 miles or 55km north of Kamloops in British Columbia. A variety of summer activities are waiting for you in this beautiful area. Major investors are involved in its development and it should become a destination of choice. Additional access roads and accommodation facilities are yet to be added, and when this is in place, Sun Peaks could grow to be one of the most popular vacation destinations in Canada.

The resort is has less than 500 people. The people living there want it to stay small. In that way it will be more attractive to tourists. The resort is growing in popularity fast.

The resort allows people to ski on three different mountains, Morrisey, Tod, and Sundance. All three mountains have variable landscape that allows both beginners and advanced skiers to have fun. There is a vertical drop of 2,894 feet which is around the same as some of the best ski mountains in North America.

Two mountains border the resort, it is a great place to relax and unwind or even be active and exercise. The golf course that is situated in the valley comes into use in the summer months once all the snow has melted. Lift access to some of the best downhill mountain biking tracks means the resort is in use all year round.

There is an increasing demand for cheaper housing for the local employees. This critically affects the performance of the resort. More accommodation for a larger amount of visitors is also needed for the resort to grow.

There are flights to the resort and it is also possible to drive there. If a direct road from the east can be constructed, the resort should get more visitors from places such as Banff and Lake Louise. It will save on travel time.

Al Raine is the mayor of the municipality. He has the experience of playing a major role in the development of Whistler, BC. His wife is a multiple Olympic gold medalist skier and, as skiing director, likes to join guests on skiing outings. With these two prominent people at the helm, Sun Peaks community, should become a popular destination. Read more about: Sun Peaks Community
