Symptoms Of Piles And How To Spot Them

By Alana Vaughn

Are you knowledgeable on the symptoms of hemorrhoids? This ailment affects people differently, depending on the type you have and the severity. Hemorrhoids are obviously always unpleasant, but in many cases they can be successfully treated or at least managed by home or over the counter remedies. Getting a doctors exam is highly recommended if your symptoms are severe, or if you aren't sure if you have hemorrhoids. Here are some of the most common signs and symptoms of hemorrhoids.

Hemorrhoids get categorized by type, internal and external, and level of severity which ranges from first degree to fourth. Internal hemorrhoids are not visible without a medical examination, which is the biggest difference between the two types. If you only have hemorrhoids occasionally, and your symptoms are not causing you extreme discomfort, you probably won't need anything more than anti-inflammatory medication that you buy at the pharmacy or prescribed by your doctor.

One of the most common signs of hemorrhoids is bleeding when you have a bowel movement. There may be pain associated with this, depending on how badly inflamed the hemorrhoids are. Hemorrhoid bleeding is only considered severe if you lose plenty of blood and it causes you to become weak and lightheaded. Although hemorrhoids are the most notable cause for rectum bleeding, you should see a doctor if this sign occurs. Other serious conditions exists like ulcerative colitis, anal fissures, polyps and particular types of cancers create rectal bleeding, which is why it is essential that you rule them out.

There are times that you should seek out medical attention for hemorrhoids. If, for example, you are taking medication for any other condition, especially anticoagulation medication, you should see your doctor before taking any over the counter remedies for hemorrhoids. Similarly, if you are experiencing bleeding on a regular basis, this should be checked by a physician. Some symptoms get incorrectly attributed to hemorrhoids. Abdominal pain, for example, should be checked out as soon as possible as it is not a symptom of hemorrhoids. People who don't get enough fiber or who are overweight can develop hemorrhoids because of these factors. Lack of exercise and not getting enough fluids are also common causes of hemorrhoids. These factor can also cause constipation, which is often linked with developing hemorrhoids. Changes to your lifestyle may help you prevent future issues with hemorrhoids. Regular exercise, more fiber, and increasing the amount of water you drink will all help. These lifestyle changes will help you gain control over the symptoms of hemorrhoids.

Obviously, hemorrhoids is something all people hope they will never have to cope with in their life. Yet, so many people in the more "advanced" societies seem to encounter this condition. Most of the time this condition can be easily managed, but of course the worst may need surgery. The best course of action is to never ignore this condition if you think you have them.
