Learning How To Digitize Photos

By Merle Nixon

Today thanks to modern technology, taking and preserving photos has become a whole lot easier. There are lots of new ways to take take pictures and even more ways to digitize your photos in case of a accident where they are damaged or destroyed.

When you make a digital copy of your image it works just like keep a spare tire for you car. The method of doing this is not hard at all and can be done be anyone with a little time and patience on their hands. The required materials for this will have to be a laptop or computer and a scanner. The scanner is what actually copies and registers the picture to your computer so choosing a decent scanner with a reasonable price is a good investment if you want stunning photo output.

The very first thing you will need to do to get started is to turn on your laptop or desktop. The next thing will be to make sure that all of your photos are organized in a specific order. This can be by name, type or the date it was taken. This is done because it makes the process a lot quicker than just randomly scanning pictures that are scattered all over the place.

After successfully ordering your images you can then install or load the scanning software from the computer.Be sure to create file folder for you images groups. This can be done manually or let the software do this but it all depends, some programs will do it for you automatically. When you have done this, lift the top to the scanner and place your photo face down on the platen.

You can now lower the lid to the scanner and begin the scanning process from the device itself or the CPU. When the file is complete you can save the file and go to the next image and so on until all of them are complete.

Depending on what type of software you may have, after scanning an image the computer will prompt you to save the file. If you like the image and it is straight you can now save it as a 'TIFF' image file into one of the folders you created earlier.

The file size may appear large on your hard drive but this is because of the type of file which is perfect for editing. If you want to add effects you can but if not there is an option to convert your image down to a smaller size with the loss of resolution. If you want the extra space though, you can print your photos out and frame them and delete the other files from your computer. From there you can frame your digitize photos or you can make a photo album, the choice is up to you.
