Interior and Exterior Shutters

By John Stabler

Many different types of shutters are sold on the market today. When thinking of shutters, many people have exterior shutters come to mind. In addition, interior shutters may also be utilized just like another type of window cover. The can block light and increase privacy.

When shutters were first designed, they were intended to make a home look nice, but their main use was to open and close over windows to block out light, heat, and cold. There are not many homes that ever open and close exterior shutters. These days, exterior shutters are mainly used for decorations to go along with the style of the home. When you look at houses, you might notice that the shutters, if closed, would not even fit over the windows properly.

Exterior shutters are always attached snuggly at the sides of windows and intended to add elegance and a balanced look to the overall appearance of a home. Typically constructed of durable plastic byproducts, exterior shutters come in just about any color and should be color coordinated and visually conform to the theme of the home.

Interior shutters are typically used in lieu of curtain panels and can be fully opened up by swinging doors or come with a louver that can be regulated to allow for the perfect amount of light. Also, interior shutters do provide some benefit as far as low outdoor temperatures are concerned. They can help insulate from the cold air at the windows - leading to lower power bills. Additionally, interior shutters come in standard sizes to fit the most common size windows, but it is well advised that each window be measured correctly to establish a good fit.

Shutters have changed a lot form their initial creation. Now, most exterior shutters serve only as a decoration and interior shutters fill the purpose for which the devices were originally intended. There are several different price ranges available and the styles each have different features for the home.
