Easiest cake recipe

By Linda Groswell

The book called it an easy to cake recipe, but I've managed to do it all wrong! The butter was too hard, the batter was gooey and your cake is burnt at the edges and sunken in the middle.

Most importantly don't let this set you back - even accomplished bakers have cake malfunctions sometimes; and whilst we are on the subject, easy cake making recipes isn't just all about how it ends up looking. A cake doesn't have to look wonderful to taste good. When mistakes are made at point of creation, you don't have to waste it - retrieve any edible bits and freeze them you can pop them in a trifle or tiramisu, and then let your dog eat the rest.

On this part of the article you will learn some basic but valuable tips which will help perfect your easy cake recipe baking skills and make you (if not your dog) more consistently delighted with your cake creations.

Preparing your tin for baking. Generously smear the butter on the inside of the tin, margarine or lard if bought in wrappers make sure to save these as they can be used for greasing). Easy Cake Recipes usually ask you to line the tin with grease proof paper but aluminium foil works just as well and is easier to fold into corners. It can be a bit fiddly lining the tin, especially if its round but there are precut shapes available to buy to assist you in this. When it comes to making fruit cakes its advised to use double thickness lining and cover the top with paper as well this can benefit in ways to prevent the burning of the cakes surface.

Measuring Easy Cake Recipe. Always follow the exact measurements on the recipe. Obviously, you can reduce of increase in ration, if your cakes going to be bigger or smaller just make sure that the quantities reflect one and other. Bare in mind that your cooking times will alter when using different volumes of batter.

Keep all cake recipe ingredients at room temperature, especially the butter taking it straight from the fridge and beating it will prove to be very hard work.

At the time you add batter into the flour, sift it, holding the sieve about 10cm/4in above the mixing bowl; this helps avoid lumps and introduces more air into the mixture.

Dropping consistency. Meaning, By scooping up the batter and tip the spoon as if to pour out, and you will find the mixture drops off slowly. Now don't worry if the batter doesn't move. Just thin it by adding a few drops of milk. If on the other hand it's to runny All you need to do is sift with flour.

Making sure your Easy Cake Recipe is Done Don't rely faithfully on the baking times given in the recipe. Always check at least 15 minutes before the end by checking the center of the cake with a knife, going well down into the mixture. It's done if it comes out clean, If the knife comes out looking moist (soggy) then give it 5 more minutes.

Decorating your cake. Allow your cake to cool down before putting on the icing. Make your easy cake recipe a whole lot easier by by omitting the frosting/icing and dust the top with icing sugar (powered) instead.
