Shopping For English Riding Boots Is Fun

By Barry Weldon

Whether done in-store or online, shopping for English Riding Boots is fun. Many wholesale distributors receive their orders online from tack and saddles stores. The only difficulty posed from shopping online as opposed to in-person might be ensuring the most accurate fit.

The two basic styles of men's and women's riding boot are tall styles which cover the lower leg to the knee and the paddock which reaches no higher than the ankle. The tall style supports the lower leg and provides protection and warmth for the foot and lower leg. The characteristic high heel present in all equestrian styles of footwear will prevent the feet from sliding out of the stirrup.

Half-chaps will give the same impression and protection as a tall style when worn over a paddock style cut. Half-chaps are available in a vast array of styles, material and colors making them a fun addition to any equestrian's wardrobe. Some are made from 100 natural suede or smooth leather, some consist of combinations of leather and fabric while yet others are completely synthetic and are, therefore, more easily maintained.

Generally speaking, English boots are tall and made of fine leather. This style provides a supple, stylish look while maintaining adequate protection for the leg and the tactility necessary to communicate with one's horse. This style of custom-fit footwear is one of the most comfortable on the market today.

Thinsulate linings, built into all styles, ensure extra warmth in cold weather. For additional warmth, especially for the foot, sheepskin liners add that extra bit of comfort and warmth. Steel toes and metal or plastic ankle supports can be found in many of the paddock styles.

The tall variety is usually made from black leather or pleather, a man-made washable product which does not require polishing. Paddock styles can often be found in mocha, tan, or black. The paddock ones can be dressed up or down with the addition of half-chaps.

Paddock styles offer a more casual, work-related look. Whereas tall styles speak for themselves whether worn for dress, training, casual or field work. Whether online or in-store, shopping for English riding boots is a fun experience because it is never difficult to find exactly the right product for one's needs.
