Gigabyte Motherboards- Find Out More About This Top Rated Technology Today

By Andrew Johnson

For motherboards that are exceptional prices, Gigabyte motherboards are one of the best types on today's market. Motherboards used to be made up of different parts that were connected via a backplane and placed on a mainframe. Later, all these peripherals were moved towards the motherboard, making it the central processing system of the computer. These circuits are basically considered to be the computer's brains.

In general, the motherboard is able to expand its performance by the printed circuit it is composed of. During the 80s, these circuits were known as ICs and could only support peripherals that operated at a low speed; mouse, floppy disk drive, keyboard, serial ports, and parallel ports. In the later part of the 90s, these internal circuits had to take charge of much more. They were required to provide support for many audio, video, networking, and storage functions.

This support had to happen without the use of an expansion card, which was needed for many of the computer graphics and 3D gaming graphics. There were a couple of popular companies that produced personal computers who actually published some schematic drawings of how to use third party motherboards to upgrade the original equipment that a manufacturer put into a computer. These were generally meant for creating new computer systems, but could also be used for these upgrades.

The only way all the components within a computer can talk with one another is through the motherboard, it is sort of like a multi-lingual translator.

The average desktop computer stores the main memory, microprocessor, and all other essential pieces on the motherboard. Other devices, such as external storage, video controllers, or speakers connect to the motherboard.

These devices are often attached through cards or cables, but many computers have started adding them directly to the motherboard. The chipset is the part that controls the communication between external devices and the computer. This chipset is a group of circuits that act as a single unit. It is part of the motherboard unit, along with power connectors, expansion card slots, sockets, main memory slots, non-volatile memory chips, and a clock generator.

Non-volatile memory chips, slots for expansion cards, and power connectors can also be found on the motherboard. There are often logic support and connectors for external devices, such as a keyboard and a mouse, included on most motherboards today. Gigabyte motherboards began their existence in the late 80s, when Gigabyte formed. This company is still leading the way in creating top quality motherboards and graphic accelerators.
