Accept Everything That Comes With Having A Horse

By Andre Hansen

When we take on the responsibility of an animal, we want to not only take on the care of the animal; we need to take on everything that comes with having an animal. You need to ensure that the pony gets exercise too. Part of giving the horse exercise is riding him. You must keep the equipment ready for riding.

The saddle and all of its parts need to be kept in working order. When the saddle fits the way it is supposed, you will have a satisfied pony. Unfortunately, it is too straightforward to have something not fit right.

There are many parts to western saddles. All these parts need to be inspected and kept in working order. It's far better to be safe than sorrowful later. This back farther than it should be and again it will rub the pony's withers. The withers on a pony are the area at the 3rd thru the eleventh thoracic vertebrae. When this area is rubbed, it could cause some evil sores and bruises. You cannot blame him though.

The gullet isn't the only part of western saddle that will cause Problems. The cinches help hold the rigging on the horse. If the cinches aren't looked after, not only can it rub the horse, but it could cause an accident. This accident can hurt you, the pony or both of you.

The cinches coming loose or breaking can cause the rigging to come loose. This could lead you to lose your seat. You attempt to correct and regain your balance. Depending on the terrain where you are riding and the temperament of your horse, you can just fall off. You may luck out and only get bruised.

However, you may be in a position where the pony gets spooked and you lose control of the situation pretty quickly. This can be tragic for you and your pony. At best you may be injured enough that it causes you to be paralyzed; at worst you die. Your horse can become hurt enough that he either dies immediately or will need to be put down because he will not be able to heal. All this can be avoided by looking after the saddle and its parts.
