Zero Gravity Massage Chair Recliners

By Jay Billings

Massage chairs are starting to add a feature known as the zero gravity position. The zero gravity position is known to support the body extremely well. In fact, it helps to better distribute the weight off of the spine. The zero gravity position was originally developed for astronauts during takeoff. It is now being used to better support the body in massage chairs.

Originally, NASA developed the zero gravity position as a way to reduce the stress put on astronauts during takeoff. The astronauts must pull many times the force of normal gravity.

NASA found through many trials and errors that the best position for an astronaut was to have them recline fully on their backs. Additionally, they found that by raising the lower legs above the heart they were better able to withstand more fours. This position was termed the zero gravity position.

Massage chairs have now incorporated zero gravity positions as standard features. Massage chairs are not going to help you get to the moon anytime soon, but they will help you relax.

The zero gravity position as it refers to furniture is meant to minimize the weight of the body on the spine. It uses a reclined position to spread the weight of the body over the surface of the back. This helps to reduce the pressure on the spine and rib cage.

Many massage chair companies have developed zero gravity positions. They utilize automatic controls which automatically put the sitter and the zero gravity position. This avoids having to make a number of adjustments to find a true zero gravity position.

One of the more popular zero gravity massage chairs is made by Sanyo. This is the DR 7700 massage chair. Sanyo has developed the DR 7700 massage chair with two different zero gravity positions. This enables the user to have a choice of different positions to find the most comfortable.

The zero gravity position seems to better spread the weight of the body. When I tried it, I did not feel weightless, but it did feel more comfortable. Each of the zero gravity positions would help to relieve the body's weight off of the spine.

We are starting to see a number of different furniture manufacturers produce zero gravity massage chairs. They come in any array of styles and prices. Each has its own different set of features and functions which are to attain the zero gravity position.

Some people routinely elevate their arms or legs to help reduce swelling. Of course, you can get this feature and some massage chairs but perhaps not all of them meet this. If not, you can achieve the same thing by putting a pillow under your legs in the recline position.

I like the trend that massage chair manufacturers are adding more positive features to their lines. Zero gravity is another feature which is important for relaxation. This helps to reduce the stress on the spine providing overall relaxation.

Some massage chair manufacturers elevate the legs higher than the heart with the leg rest. This has the additional benefit of helping to reduce swelling and promote better blood circulation. Not every massage chair has this position. So check them out to make sure they have the types of zero gravity position features you wish.
