Duracell DPP-600HD Powerpack Plus Review

By William Pratt

The Duracell DPP-600HD Powerpack consists of a single DC outlet, 3 pronged AC outlets to power multi loads, sealed nonspillable 28 amp hour AGM battery (must be charged), built in 600 watt and radio am/fm with digital clock.

The Duracell Powerpack is proving to be handy to those who have to work without an electric outlet. It is a good option for those who make use of tools or other accessories in out of the way places. A convenient back up in this situation is the Duracell Powerpack because it is completely portable and easy to transport.

This product is manufactured by both Duracell and Xantrex. These two brands have about twenty five years of portable back up power products. The Duracell DPP-600HD Powerpack provides more than power as it comes with a variety of both emergency and safety features. This power product has the capability to start up the engine of your car. Should you need to you can use it with confidence to power all your small appliances.

When recharging the Powerpack's battery, it can be done by simply plugging it into an AC outlet in your home. Alternatively, you can use the cigarette outlet in your vehicle. The battery has the capacity to supply 600 watts to a single DC socket and three AC outlets that are grounded. If you have more than one outlet, this allows you to power a few appliances at the same time. It is outfitted with internal circuitry that guarantees a long life because it protects against harsh temperatures and overload. The user is immediately alerted if there is overheating or unstable voltage.

The Powerpack was put through its paces over seven days. It was used to power a variety of media devices and a hair dryer. It also recharged cell phones and the batteries of cameras. This was done on a regular basis and it was found the battery remained powered for nearly the full seven days. The battery performed as was expected.

Although the battery performed as expected, unfortunately the power meter was not accurate. The meter read ninety percent on the fourth day and seventy percent on the firth day. The out of power indicator only became visible on the sixth day. This was not the only negative thing because the clock could not be switched off. This may aggravate some users if they wanted to save as much power as possible.

It was recorded that although the Powerpack is a portable device, it is not necessarily lightweight. Therefore carrying it physically for long distances is not advised. For people who go on a camping trip where they have to leave their cars and walk for a distance, may have to reconsider about lugging this battery along.

The Powerpack Plus has both its strong and weak points. It was however been determined to be a worthwhile product that remained powered long enough to prove very useful before needing to be recharged. For people that want to carry a device such as a laptop with them to out of the way locations will find the positive aspects of the Powerpack will outweigh the negatives.
