After becoming the President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela one day went to a restaurant to have lunch.
He was accompanied by his
security people. Everyone was waiting for their favourite food to be served.
At that time, a little away from
Mandela, one other person was also waiting for his food.
Mandela sent his security guard
and called that person to this table.
Food arrived and everyone started
eating their food, including that person.
After finishing the food, the
person left the restaurant as quickly as possible bowing his head.
The security officer told
Mandela, “Maybe the person is not well, I saw his hand shaking while eating.”
Mandela said, “No, that's not the
matter. Actually he was the jailor of the prison where I was kept. He used to
torture me a lot. When I become extremely tired after tolerating continuous
torture and ask for water, he would pee in my mouth.”
“Now I am the President. He might
have thought that I would punish him the way he did to me. And for that reason
his hand was shaking while eating. But my mind is not revengeful. That is not
my nature.”
“The thought of revenge destroys
the humanity within a person but patience and tolerance help us to grow and
prosper.”
No, we shouldn't take revenge in
our life because as this great man has said, the thought of revenge destroys
the humanity within us.
