What is the best example of "instant regret"?

In 2009, an inmate named James Washington suffered a series of severe seizures. Washington, aged 50, felt he was on death’s door. He wanted to die with a clear conscience so he motioned a guard to come closer to him. “I have something to tell you,” said Washington in a weak voice.[1]

James Washington admitted that almost 15 years earlier, he had beaten a woman to death. He had rolled her up in a rug and dragged her to an abandoned apartment, which he then set on fire to cover up evidence… firefighters called to the scene then found the remains of the lady, 35-year-old Joyce Goodener. The case was unsolved until Washington confessed on his death bed…

Only it wasn’t his deathbed — James Washington beat the odds and survived. He then tried to recant his confession, claiming he was “hallucinating” because of medication he was on. Police didn’t buy it, of course. Already in prison for a 2006 attempted murder, Washington had 51 years added to his sentence.
