What is the background of Islamophobia?

The way that some Muslims behave.

Islam is an expansionist religion. Many religions do this through proselytising, even today. Islam tends to do it through aggressive cultural infiltration and, historically, war. Disaffected young men particularly are radicalised and drawn into an aggressively hostile stance against their host country.

Add to that Islamic terrorism being very prominent in people's minds, certainly in the west, although the west very firmly brought that on itself by unwisely using the Afghan Mujahedeen as part of their proxy war with the USSR.

The majority of Muslims are peaceful, normal people, but as is always the case, it's the hard kernel that spoils it for everybody else.
