Is someone here non-Muslim that is married to or is dating a Muslim girl? What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The religious indoctrination is so strong that they cannot free themselves.

My wife is a Muslim but has never read the Koran, nor has any knowledge of her religion. She did not even know that she was Sunni. All she knows is what she was told from childhood until now. She grew up in a Muslim family, in a Muslim community. There was no need to question it.

Now, when I question her religion, she cannot defend it. She does not know how because she has never thought about it, and so she gets angry. Mostly angry because she cannot answer even simple questions like ‘What makes you think that Islam is true?’.

She honestly thought that I would convert. She asks ‘Why can’t you change?’, so I ask her ‘Why can’t you change?’. It’s just a waste of time because she cannot look at her religion critically.

She wanted to indoctrinate our son but I would not allow that and it has caused many unpleasant moments. I tell her to let him choose his own way but she thinks that it is her duty to show him the ‘correct’ way. She cannot imagine that there is any other way than her way.

It will never be resolved. The poison is too pervasive. We live from day to day.
