Didn't the ancient Egyptians create any record of how they built the pyramids?

The ancient Egyptians did leave records of their activities, including some related to construction projects, but there is no single, comprehensive record detailing the construction techniques of the pyramids. The information we have about pyramid construction primarily comes from various sources, such as inscriptions, hieroglyphs, and archaeological evidence. However, it's important to note that the exact methods used to build the pyramids remain a subject of scholarly debate.

Here are some sources of information regarding pyramid construction:

1. **Hieroglyphs and Inscriptions:** Inscriptions found in tombs, temples, and other structures contain information about the achievements and activities of ancient Egyptians, including references to construction projects. Some inscriptions mention the roles of laborers, craftsmen, and overseers.

2. **Papyri:** The ancient Egyptians used papyrus to create written records. While no specific papyrus has been found describing the construction of the pyramids, some documents mention the organization of labor and provisions for workers, offering indirect insights into the society of that time.

3. **Archaeological Evidence:** Excavations around the Giza Plateau and other pyramid sites have revealed remnants of workers' settlements, tools, and various construction materials. These findings contribute to our understanding of the logistics and organization involved in pyramid construction.

4. **Herodotus:** Herodotus, a Greek historian who lived in the 5th century BCE, visited Egypt and wrote about his observations. He described the use of a straight or zigzagging causeway to transport the stones and the use of machines like cranes (which some historians debate) and levers.

Despite these sources, the specific engineering details of how the massive stones were quarried, transported, and precisely assembled to create the pyramids remain a mystery. The lack of a single, comprehensive record detailing the construction techniques has led to various theories and speculations about the methods employed by the ancient Egyptians, involving ramps, levers, counterweights, and organizational strategies.

In essence, while we have some valuable information about aspects of ancient Egyptian construction, the exact details of pyramid construction techniques continue to be a topic of exploration and investigation within the fields of archaeology and Egyptology.
