Today, technological advancements and inventions are turning what seemed to be dreams a few years ago into reality. One invention that proves this point is the two wheel scooter, which also goes by the name self-balancing two-wheeled scooter or boards. This device is a kind of portable vehicles capable of being powered by rechargeable batteries. It is usually small in size and can only accommodate a single passenger at a time. More recent models allow for powering using electricity and other mechanisms.

The vehicle consists of two wheels that are arranged side-by-side as opposed to one coming after the other lie in the case of a bike. The two wheels are joined together by a platform over which the rider stands. Balancing is achieved through an internal balancing mechanism, which is usually covered from view by the platform on which the rider stands. The accuracy and reaction time of various balancing mechanisms vary among various models.

The standing platform protects and covers the controls, which are internally located too. The rider controls the device by their feet on built-in hygroscopic, sensored platform. The origin of the vehicle is China, but the adoption by several American celebrities made it popular. The public followed the suit of the celebrities. There is no universal name for the vehicle. Names are given depending on the distributor and not the Chinese company that manufactured it.

The specific Chinese company associated with the invention and initial production of the device is hard to pinpoint owing to the fast pace at which the Chinese industry is growing. However, there are a few companies that are associated with the invention such as the Chic Robotics and Shane Chen. Chen, w businessman in China claims to have been the first individual to invent the gadget in 2013 and that other companies stole the invention. Since then wars concerning patent rights have been fought.

American celebrities such as Chris Brown, Jamie Foxx, Kendall Jenner, Soulja Boy, and Wiz Khalifa are usually credited with making the gadget popular worldwide. There are videos on the internet of American celebrities riding on the devices or falling off them. Many brands of the gadget exist today and they differ in many ways. Some of the brands that are most popular today include Cyboard, Monoboard, Monorover, Esway, Airboard, Swagway, and Roadrunner.

Aspects such as weight, speed of travel, and range among others vary in various models. Popular models mostly travel at speeds between 10-20 km/h. Internal engineering is responsible for determining speed. Hence it is a factor specified by the manufacturer and cannot be altered by the user.

The weight also varies diversely and does not usually determine the speed. Most brands produced so far weigh above 100 kilograms, but stay below 150 kilograms. With more research and ever growing sophistication in technology, the vehicles are likely to move with higher speeds and weight much less. The range has stayed below 25 kilometers and above 10 kilometers in most popular brands.
