You May Find A Hurricane Tracking Map To Be Extremely Convenient

By Jeannie Chapman

Hurricane tracking maps are used by meteorologists to plot the pattern of storms and hurricanes. Without them there would be no warnings and people would not have time to prepare and evacuate their homes in time. A hurricane tracking map for students can be made available on the internet, they can be downloaded and used as a teaching tool at school.

Tropical storms and typhoons are given names to avoid confusion when more than one storm is being followed. A storm becomes this when it gets to tropical storm winds of around 39 mph. A storm becomes a typhoon when the wind speed reached 75 mph. Interestingly the names are alternated between male and female names. Six sets of names have been selected, which means that name set is only used every six years.

Trying to compete with wind speeds that can reach 155 miles an hour is impossible. Catastrophe is sure to follow with complete roofs collapsing on buildings, some even collapsing completely. Severe window and door damage will occur and hundreds of mobile homes will be demolished.

Lives are destroyed, treasured possessions and mementos lost forever and dreams shattered. That is the truth of it, and as hard as it may be to hear, a hurricane of such great proportion will change lives for a very long time. Starting again with very little or nothing is extremely difficult, but can be done with a little help.

Mind boggling to say the least for some of those less scientifically minded. Studying photographs taken from the air might give a better idea of how the wind is sucked into the hole in the middle of the storm. Other pictures explain how the tides change and how huge the waves can get.

How does a town recover from one of the worst civil engineering disasters? There is nowhere to hide when winds of 175 mph come tearing across the land. How did they ever recover from such total catastrophe? Some never really have and to this day are still paying the price.

Precautions must be taken in readiness for such an occurrence. Checking insurance policies to make sure you have enough cover is one of them. Finding out where inland pet friendly hotels are, where you and your family can take refuge in a storm, is another that you should know beforehand. If you are lucky enough to own a boat you need to know where you will move it to before that hurricane warning is announced.

Many lessons have been learned as a result of this tragedy and steps have been taken to prevent a disaster of this magnitude from happening again. Everyone is warned to board up their windows, clear their properties, check that all their emergency supplies are working. When a storm like Katrina comes, sadly even all those safety measures will not help. Man is at the mercy of Mother Nature. Hurricane tracking maps are essential for the future with the climate changes affecting the weather patterns so significantly.
