Must Knows Of An EWC Damper

By Dawn Williams

The fundamentals of thermodynamics govern the idea of air regulation. In heating, ventilation and air conditioning devices or HVACs found in cars and closed rooms or buildings, an effective management of wind from the outside and from the inside is necessary. An EWC damper or an airflow managing valve is very useful in achieving the right amount of temperature and humidity a closed space requires.

A damper or a supply duct opening is a noun which refers to a material that inhibits. It has a wide range of definition according to the areas of engineering, music, and electronics. It adjusts airflow and permits just the right ventilation inside buildings, rooms and engines.

There are rectangle and circle dampers. Circles are more convenient to use because they are easy to install. Their varied sizes are usually sold in mechanical shops. However, rectangles need to be pre-ordered because they have to undergo size determination in a metal fabricator. They are usually a bit complicated to install.

Temperature regulating devices allow draft to go in or to go out. When the room is too cold, they close so that warm air gets trapped which gradually turns the temperature up. When it is hot, they open so the draft gets in and warmer air gets out effecting a decrease in the temperature. They generally act as traffic enforcers in pipes and ducts. You can visually determine the patency of the regulator through its visible chamber and its lever position.

A supply duct opening can be manual or automatic. Manual types need an outside force to open or close their panes. Automatic types have a built in motor that detects any temperature change and immediately adjusts the flow of breeze from the outside to the inside and vice versa.

Dampers are very helpful to prevent fire. They are also installed in furnaces to control combustion. When their panes are open, oxygen is added to the fire which enhances combustion. If the panes are close, which is a protocol when there are fire emergencies, the supply of oxygen becomes limited thus, lessening the strength of the flame.

In choosing your temperature controller, you need to know your HVAC duct size. The controller needs to fit properly to utilize its cooling and warming capacity. There are also customized types like regulators specific for control and isolation, smoke dispersion and blast containment. It is up to you to choose what suits your needs.

Temperature adjustment is affected when there are leaks in your controllers. The size of the zone should not go beyond the zonal limits of your equipment. Failing to note this will lead to the inadequacy of desired coldness and warmness of the area. Combining of contaminated gases may also be detrimental to the health of the people situated in the covered area.

Product development is being done by companies so that disadvantages of using an EWC damper and other heat and cold regulators can be minimized if not eradicated. Zoning systems are the trend in the HVAC industry which involves the use of dampers in adjusting temperatures of different areas at the same time. Customer satisfaction is always a top priority for HVAC providers.
