Pistol Engraving Can Hurt Or Increase Value

By Liliana Mills

There has been a lot said of late regarding guns and other firearms. Automatic weapons bans, high capacity magazine bans, and that is just the beginning of the laws and regulations that congress and government in general are planning to put on guns. Gun owners are people who enjoy the unique qualities of the firearms they own and one way to add your own mark to your piece is with pistol engraving.

Today however lasers have taken over the job and just as they have with various other duties, lasers have taken the profession to new heights and made various new designs possible. In the past the more complicated a design was the longer it would take and even sometimes would not be possible because of the tools used.

You might not want to sell it now but who knows if you might ever want to pass it down the line to one of your children or grandchildren. Even if something is not ever planning on being sold, the value it holds can bring a bit more of a special feeling to it when given as a gift, especially to a family member.

Usually the people who will have this type of work done to their guns are those who have just a standard piece and want to add some flair or style to its look. Being a standard weapon does not mean that it is not special, but just a weapon that is made in large numbers but still something that the owner has wanted for some time or paid a lot for. That can give it value as well.

Not everyone has that style in mind when they consider doing this or maybe they just do not like that look. There are a variety of other popular designs for pistol engraving and it only depends on what you like and how you want your firearm to look. None of these design additions will affect the performance of the gun in the least.

The limitation was the tools available. When lasers became a part of the trade all bets were off. People who wanted complicated designs who might have had to search for a long time before could really go anywhere and have it done. The laser being introduced basically took the workmanship of the individual artisan out of the equation.

In the past it was done with different sets of tools and usually by very fast vibrating heads that would sort of scratch the design or the numbers into the metal. Today lasers are used and they offer a much more precise result and can also offer more intricate work and complicated designs. These could not be done in the past.

The margin for error became very low and people started having all sorts of things put onto their firearms. Pistol engraving got a breath of fresh air with the laser as more and more people found it was possible to have anything put onto their weapons. Today you can get anything and the only limitation is that of the imagination.
