Tips For Designing Your Wedding Cake

By Carla Rossouw

Whether it's your wedding, or the wedding of a close friend, it won't take long to realize that the planning process is often both detailed and complicated. The following advice will make it easier for you to create a memorable wedding that will come off without any snags.

Your main concern when getting married is, of course, the individual you are going to marry. Don't make this choice in a hurry. Think about this person and what things will drive you crazy, along with what you can't live without.

Plan group activities for those who are sharing your special day. It is unfair to expect your friends, or even your family members, to stand around bored to tears on this important day. The activities that you can incorporate into your wedding day can range from simple games, to contests, to door prizes. Make your wedding a participatory event for all, and it will be both fun and memorable for everyone.

When you are planning on who will be giving the speeches at the wedding, have them rehearse the material before you so that you can make sure everything is appropriate. Certain jokes or comments might not sit well with certain age groups.

Choose your wedding dress carefully and with forethought if you are expecting a baby. It might sound like simple common sense to choose a dress that accommodates your growing stomach, but many brides underestimate how their body will grow and change shape.

One of the major things that impacts your wedding day and married life will be religion. Talking to your partner about his or her religion is important, but talking to the in-laws about their religion is essential, as well.

Decorate your wedding with items which represent your hobbies or passions, such as traveling the world. The printed items, such as invitations and thank you cards, can have the look of old maps or vintage postcards. An old-style suitcase can be set open on a table as the backdrop for wedding programs or favors.

Too many flower arrangements on the guest tables at your reception are usually an interference and an extra unnecessary expense. The majority of the time, these flowers are in the guests' way. Excessive flowers can also be inconvenient for any allergy sufferers who are attending your wedding. To give the tables a romantic look, consider using non-scented candles as a centerpiece.

Your wedding should be as unique as your relationship is, so add a few touches specific to your personalities or relationship. Pick a theme that relates to who you are as a couple!

Divide your table settings evenly. Don't put an odd number of people at any table. To keep table conversations flowing, group the people you have sitting at the tables by their age.

If one of your friends or relatives becomes ordained over the Internet, he or she can preside over your wedding ceremony. Not only will this save you money by not needing to hire an officiant, it will add a nice personal touch to the ceremony. Make sure that this is something that is legal where you live.

It is important that you put some trust in other people when you are planning your wedding. Since weddings require a lot of emotional investment, you probably want to dominate all aspects of the planning. However, one person cannot do it all so you will need to enlist the help of experts who understand certain areas of planning process better than you.

Be mindful of possible weather conditions. The guests may be uncomfortable if it is outdoors and very hot out. In the same vein, people may ditch your wedding if the heat isn't turned up high enough, during a winter event. Try to keep guests comfortable by providing fans or space heaters, as necessary.

Perhaps you could print your own invitations to save money. You can buy an invitation kit; you will then be allowed to pick all of your own inks and fonts.

With a familiarity with the basics of wedding planning, you're now ready to strike out on your own and use this knowledge to build a custom wedding experience. Implement the tips and tricks above to take the stress out of getting wed, and enjoy the glorious event that you've created.
